Artist Statement about Unfolding Life
This new series is called Unfolding Life. It feels like a garden full of color, texture and growth. Many of the pieces have the word “pod” in their title and are like seeds that grow into pods that open up and sprout life. Like the transformation of plants into forests or food or most anything in our physical world, these paintings are about life. Similar to my Alchemy series and my 4 Elements series, pieces of collaged paper come together to create something new – come together to create life and energy.
Each of these small 12 inch by 9 inch paintings is a world onto itself. As you examine the surface, you dive deeper into the textures and folds that create the life energy of the art. You see life unfold before you like the bloom of a flower. An element used throughout is a graphic of a rose. The rose is a perfect example of unfolding life, something that turns into a bright colored, pleasant smelling delight unlike anything else. Spiraling growth is everywhere in the work. Another familiar element is a leaf-like shape that I started using in the 4 Elements series. It is a symbol of growth used to build larger organic images.
This work allows one to feel alive and remember the beautiful parts of life. It brings an energy that lifts the spirit and pulls one away from the difficulties and trauma experienced in our daily lives. Unwind, unfold, let the natural world help you escape when you need it most.
Unfolding Life is a garden that exudes the beauty of abstracted nature and explores worlds of energy and life.
