Los Angeles artist brings Natural Alchemy to the Handle shop in South Pasadena.
Saturday, October 19th from 4:00 – 9:00 pm, artist opening reception will be held in conjunction with the South Pasadena Art Crawl.
What is Natural Alchemy? Artist Maureen Maki has been calling her paintings alchemy for many years. She uses a unique collage process that she developed using textured and intricate pieces of paper. “Paper is my paint when I make these paintings. I place different pieces together and a natural alchemy occurs on the page or canvas – they are transformed into something new and wonderful.”
To further the alchemy concept, she considers all the different elements coming together to form our world. The paper pieces are the elements coming together creating chemical reactions that make up everything. The paintings come alive and radiate energy and life.
Maki says, “I don’t like to show my work in a place unless it makes sense. I love the overall feel of the Handle shop. It is like a work of art itself. The items for sale have a authentic hand-made quality and are delicately placed in a most comforting and lovely way.”
